You will be part of a brand new team of family support practitioners that will be supporting families in a variety of ways including supervision of family time, providing parenting support and supporting social work assessments, as well as other tasks as required.
Main duties and responsibilities:
You will be part of a brand new team of family support practitioners that will be supporting families in a variety of ways including supervision of family time, providing parenting support and supporting social work assessments, as well as other tasks as required.
You will be required to build supportive and empowering relationships with families and deliver a non-judgemental service that empowers and values the strengths, needs and views of the whole family.
You will demonstrate the ability to support and promote high quality parenting at home by modelling behaviour, encouraging positive communication and family relationships, and supporting the social work assessments as required.
You will undertake home visits and outreach support to children, young people, and their families as required, adhering to lone worker policy and assessing risks in all situations. This may involve flexible working patterns as required to be agreed.
You may be required to transport children and supervise family time as required.
As part of your work with families you will ensure all appropriate records and data are maintained in a safe secure format, and that all reports are accessible, concise and follow agreed procedures.
Your experience should include:
• Experience of working with children, young people, families, and communities and delivering a wide range of interventions.
• Experience of working with multi-agency assessments and plans.
Page 1 of 3 • Knowledge of and an ability to undertake a range of interventions that support positive outcomes for children, young people and their families.
• Working knowledge of child protection and relevant legislation.
• Knowledge and understanding of child development and attachment across the age ranges.
• Knowledge of the services available to families across public, private and third sector and the ability to access new information on these services.
• Ability to establish and maintain strong and trusting relationships and boundaries with vulnerable families and professionals.
• Working knowledge and the ability to recognise the range of factors that can affect parenting capacity and increase the risk of abuse, e.g. domestic abuse, substance misuse, mental health.
• Working knowledge and understanding of a range of effective communication skills to support engagement of children, young people and their families.
Your skills should include:
• Emotionally resilient and able to demonstrate commitment and confidence and enthuse others.
• Empathetic, approachable.
• Ability to thrive in a stressful and complex working environment
• Ability to assert, influence, negotiate and persevere with others in a variety of workplace situations and with vulnerable families.
• Ability to get alongside families and undertake tasks of a practical nature.

• You will be flexible in your approach to working with families and the post holder may be required to perform work as required in addition to what is referred to above and in areas outside of Leicester/shire.

• You need to hold a current, full driving license which is valid for driving in the UK and have access to your own vehicle or be able to travel across the county and city in a timely way.
